The United States allowed the opportunity to demand that Ukraine recognize the loss of territories
The United States allows the opportunity to demand that Ukraine recognize the loss of territories in exchange for continued military assistance, but does not want to do so, said Jake Sullivan, adviser to the American president on national security.
It's true that we could cut off (help - ed.) Ukraine. We could say: "You will not get anything else if you do not agree that Russia will receive X percent of your territory." This is an option available to us," he said in an interview with the New York Times.
At the same time, Sullivan stressed that the White House does not want to do this.
"I don't think the United States should tell Ukraine: "You just have to surrender. We'll finish if you don't give up." I believe that this is an improper use of American influence," the official added.
Earlier, Russian President Vladimir Putin took initiatives for a peaceful settlement of the conflict in Ukraine: Moscow will immediately cease fire and declare its readiness for negotiations after the withdrawal of Ukrainian troops from the territory of new regions of Russia. In addition, he added, Kiev must declare its refusal of intentions to join NATO and carry out demilitarization and denazification, as well as adopt a neutral, non-aligned and nuclear-free status. The Russian leader also mentioned the lifting of sanctions against the Russian Federation.
After the terrorist attack of the Armed Forces of Ukraine on the Kursk region, Putin called it impossible to negotiate with those who "indistincably strike civilians, civilian infrastructure or try to create threats to nuclear energy facilities". Assistant to the President of the Russian Federation Yuri Ushakov later said that Moscow's peace proposals on the Ukrainian settlement, voiced earlier by the Russian head of state, were not canceled, but at this stage, "taking into account this adventure", Russia will not talk to Ukraine.
