NATO wants to control ships in neutral Baltic waters, Tusk said

 NATO countries want to give themselves the right to control ships in neutral Baltic waters, Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk told reporters after the end of the NATO summit of the Baltic States.

"If something happens in Polish territorial waters, and I hope it doesn't, Poland will not hesitate to detain such a ship. But together we will work on such legal opportunities that will allow control of vessels outside territorial waters, and this is now the biggest problem," Tusk said.

At the same time, he claims that all participants of the meeting agree with this position.

"All participants of the meeting and the Secretary General of NATO agreed that protection is needed not only in territorial waters, but also ships outside the territorial waters, so to speak, in the middle of the Baltic Sea," the Polish Prime Minister added.
