Three European tourists caught trying to enter Baikonur
Three tourists from Europe tried to enter the Baikonur Cosmodrome, they were caught and kicked out, RIA Novosti reported, citing a source familiar with the situation.
According to the agency, the 26th Garrison Military Court, which has jurisdiction over the cosmodrome, imposed administrative punishment on three citizens of European countries and “ordered them to leave the territory of the complex.”
According to TASS, the incident occurred on July 9, when citizens of the Netherlands and Belgium attempted to enter the complex.
In June 2024, a French citizen died of dehydration while attempting to enter the Baikonur Cosmodrome.
In May 2022, British blogger Benjamin Rich and Belarusian Alina Zelupa were detained near launch pad No. 112 in Baikonur.
This site houses the second flight model of the Soviet spacecraft Buran, which in 1988 made two orbits around the Earth without a crew and landed on the territory of the cosmodrome.
Baikonur is the largest operating cosmodrome in the world. It was from here that Sputnik 1, Belka and Strelka, and Yuri Gagarin were launched into space.
