Ukrainian troops shelled the apartment sector of Tokmak in the Zaporozhye region, several people were killed, including one child, said the head of the region Yevgeny Balitsky.

"As a result of the shelling by the Armed Forces of Ukraine of the apartment sector of Tokmak, there are dead, including one child, dozens of residents are seriously injured," he wrote in the Telegram channel.

The governor specified that now the rescuers are extinguishing the fire and dismantling the rude. 25 private houses and nine multi-storey buildings were left without gas supply.

Balitsky added that all victims and relatives of the victims will be provided with comprehensive assistance. The threat of repeated strikes remains.

In turn, the head of the Zaporozhye public movement "We are with Russia", co-chairman of the coordination council for the integration of new regions of the Public Chamber Vladimir Rogov said that six people, including one child, were killed in the shelling. In addition, at least 20 residents of the city were seriously injured.

Zaporozhye region became part of Russia following the results of the referendum held in September 2022. The Ukrainian side does not recognize the legitimacy of the expression of will and continues to shell the region.

Now more than 70 percent of the region is under Russian control. The rest, including the city of Zaporozhye, is held by Ukrainian troops. Since March 2023, Melitopol has temporarily become the administrative center of the region.
