Putin discussed floods with the Orenburg governor

President Vladimir Putin spoke by telephone with the Governor of the Orenburg Region Denis Pasler. He reported on the fight against flooding in the region. As a result of the conversation, the president decided to send the head of the Ministry of Construction of the Russian Federation, Irek Fayzullin, to the region. He will inform local residents about the upcoming restoration of infrastructure and housing.

“The governor informed the president about the progress of work to combat the flood, with its consequences, and to provide assistance to people - mainly those who are still in the flood zone and those who have already been evacuated to temporary accommodation centers,” the press secretary provided details President Dmitry Peskov (quote from TASS).

According to him, the head of the Ministry of Construction “in a direct dialogue” will tell the population of the region about the planned work of the regional and federal authorities to restore infrastructure: this applies to destroyed and washed out roads, as well as residential buildings. As Peskov clarified, this means both already recorded cases of loss and damage to housing, as well as those that have yet to be established.

On April 5, the Ural River broke through an embankment dam and flooded several districts of the Orenburg city of Orsk. The mayor of the city Vasily Kozupitsa said that the peak of the flood has passed and the water is beginning to recede from the city, but the situation remains complex. The head of the Ministry of Emergency Situations  of the Russian Federation, Alexander Kurenkov, returned to the region . The President has no plans to visit the region yet.
