In Russia, more than 600 SIM boxes were seized in March due to the threat of sabotage

 Russian security forces seized more than 600 SIM boxes that could be used in sabotage and terrorist activities, the FSB Public Relations Center reported.

“Illegal activities of owners of SIM boxes, through which accounts of social networks, instant messengers, financial wallets and bank accounts, used, including for sabotage and terrorist activities, are illegally activated,” the release says.

In addition, such equipment can be used to report false terrorist threats and spread fake news.

In total, in March, FSB and  Ministry of Internal Affairs officers seized 612 SIM boxes and more than 300 thousand SIM cards in 40 regions.

The police opened criminal cases against 30 people under articles of fraud, and against two more under articles of unlawful access to computer information; they are involved in illegal access to State Services accounts.

In addition, security forces detained a resident of St. Petersburg born in 1980, who activated SIM cards of Russian operators for Ukrainian terrorist organizations.
