What is known about the shelling of Belgorod by the Ukrainian Armed Forces

On the afternoon of February 15, the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) fired at civilian targets in Belgorod. Russian air defense systems managed to intercept and destroy 14 shells. As a result of the attack by the Ukrainian Armed Forces, according to preliminary data, five people were killed and another 18 were injured.

Shelling from the Ukrainian Armed Forces

At 12:21, the governor of the Belgorod region, Vyacheslav Gladkov, reported on his Telegram channel that a missile warning siren had been launched in Belgorod and the Belgorod region.

According to the Ministry of Defense , Russian air defense systems, during shelling from the Ukrainian Armed Forces, destroyed 14 RM-70 Vampire MLRS rockets over the territory of the Belgorod region.

As a result of the shelling, 5 people were killed, including one child, and another 18 were injured, including 5 children, Gladkov said .

After the shelling, 15 people were hospitalized, including two children, the emergency department of Belgorod City Hospital No. 2 clarified.

In Belgorod, seven private households, five apartment buildings, five cars, one store were damaged, and there was damage on the territory of one of the industrial enterprises. In the Belgorod village of Shagarovka, two private households were damaged.

Authorities' reaction

Operational services are working on the spot, door-to-door inspections are being carried out, Gladkov said.

The head of the Kursk region, Roman Starovoyt, expressed condolences and declared his readiness to provide assistance to residents of the neighboring Belgorod region, where there were “many casualties” as a result of the Ukrainian shelling. According to him, the shells hit a shopping center, a school stadium and courtyards.

Official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry Maria Zakharova said that the Russian Federation will submit another terrorist attack by the Armed Forces of Ukraine in Belgorod to the UN  Security Council for consideration .

Previous massive attack on Belgorod

In Belgorod, as a result of massive Ukrainian shelling on December 29 and 30, 25 people were killed and more than 100 were injured. Over 40 buildings were damaged, including administrative and social facilities, as well as shopping centers.

The Russian military, in response to the massive shelling of Belgorod, attacked military targets in Ukraine, including destroying those who planned and carried out the attack on the Russian city.
