The US will transfer confiscated funds to Estonia for the restoration of Ukraine
“The Ministries of Justice of Estonia and the United States signed a cooperation agreement at the Munich Security Conference to transfer confiscated criminal proceeds in the amount of $484.9 thousand for the restoration of Ukraine’s power transmission network,” the statement says.
According to the Department of Justice , in March last year, the US Department of Justice confiscated 484.9 thousand dollars obtained by criminal means in a smuggling case, where they tried to sell a grinding machine to Russia, which is prohibited without the appropriate license, since it allegedly could be used in defense programs and for needs of atomic weapons.
The US authorities, with the support of the prosecutor's office and the Estonian Tax and Customs Department, also brought charges against a number of individuals and enterprises that were part of the smuggling network. The crime was discovered in the United States, but a company registered in Estonia was associated with it. In January last year, Estonia extradited to the United States a Ukrainian citizen accused of this crime and living in the republic.
The US Department of Justice will allocate confiscated funds to Estonia for the cooperation of the prosecutor's office and the Tax and Customs Department in the investigation of an international sanctions crime, the Estonian Ministry of Justice notes.
