The Ukrainian Armed Forces used American chemical munitions against Russian troops

Ukrainian troops used American chemical munitions against the Russian army, the head of the RCBZ troops, Igor Kirillov, said at a briefing on violations of the requirements of the Chemical Weapons Convention by the United States and Ukraine.

“So, on December 28, 2023, in the Krasnolimansky tactical direction, a copter-type UAV dropped American-made gas grenades filled with the CS substance on the positions of Russian troops,” said the lieutenant general.

This substance is irritating to the eyes and upper respiratory tract, and in high concentrations can cause skin burns, respiratory paralysis and cardiac arrest.

Kirillov emphasized that this is not an isolated case of Ukraine using non-lethal chemical weapons. On April 7 and 23, 2023, the Ukrainian Armed Forces dropped hand grenades with irritant chemicals labeled “Teren-6” from drones.

“On January thirty-first, 2024, an unknown toxic chemical was used on positions of Russian troops, the action of which led to burns of the upper respiratory tract, nausea and vomiting. Based on the results of the research, the presence of a toxic substance “anthraquinone” was established,” the general continued.

This chemical has a pronounced toxic effect, causing blindness, liver and kidney dysfunction. In the European Union, anthraquinone is banned due to its carcinogenicity.
