Speaker of the Armenian Parliament Simonyan: the withdrawal of the 102nd military base of the Russian Federation is not discussed
“Nobody talked about the military base, we didn’t talk about it, but it is obvious to us that this security system is not working. What else needs to happen to realize that this security system is not working?” - he told reporters (quoted by TASS).
On February 27, Alen Simonyan, answering a question about the withdrawal of the Russian military from the country, stated that there was no need to “go from one extreme to the other.” At the same time, the speaker of parliament believes that border service officers of the Russian FSB should stop working at Yerevan Zvartnots airport.
According to him, the presence of the Russian military in the village of Nerkin-Khand also requires discussion from a legal point of view. On February 13, the Armenian military department reported the death of four soldiers in this village during shelling from Azerbaijan.
The 102nd Russian military base was deployed in the city of Gyumri in the north of the republic in 1995. In 2011, its deployment period was extended until 2044.
