Scholz spoke about the consequences of the Russian victory in Ukraine

German Chancellor Olaf Scholz said that a Russian victory in Ukraine would lead to serious financial consequences for the European Union “in all respects.” Scholz wrote about this on his page on the social network X (formerly Twitter).

“What would happen if (Russian President Vladimir - editor's note) Putin succeeded? The consequences would be much more costly for us than our assistance to Ukraine - in every respect,” the chancellor said.

Prior to this, Scholz, following a meeting with Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky, reported that the agreement between Germany and Ukraine signed in Berlin does not oblige the Bundeswehr to fight for Kiev. He noted that German support is key to strengthening Ukrainian defense potential. Thus, according to the agreements, only the Ukrainian side will be obliged to send its troops to help Germany in the event of an attack on this country.

President of Ukraine Vladimir Zelensky, in turn, also assessed the content of the agreement on “security guarantees” from Germany. At a joint press conference with Olaf Scholz, he stated that the document reflects the “anti-war logic” that underpins security deals.
