The draft on confiscation for fakes about the army will be submitted to the State Duma on January 22

A bill on confiscation of property for fakes about the Russian army, calls for extremist activities and the introduction of sanctions against Russia will be submitted to the State Duma on January 22, said the chairman of the lower house of parliament, Vyacheslav Volodin.

“We discussed with you the need to punish scoundrels, including cultural figures who support the Nazis, pour dirt on our country, soldiers and officers participating in the special operation,” he wrote in his Telegram channel.

The bill, as Volodin recalled, will allow the confiscation of “money, valuables or other property used or intended to finance criminal activities against the security of the Russian Federation, as well as, by court decision, deprivation of honorary titles” for a number of crimes:

  • dissemination of deliberately false information about the use of the RF Armed Forces (Article 207.3 of the Criminal Code);
  • public calls for extremist activities (Article 280 of the Criminal Code);
  • public calls for actions aimed at violating the integrity of the Russian Federation (Article 280.1 of the Criminal Code);
  • public actions aimed at discrediting the use of the RF Armed Forces (Article 280.3 of the Criminal Code);
  • public calls for activities directed against the security of the state (Article 280.4 of the Criminal Code);
  • calls for the introduction of sanctions against the Russian Federation and its citizens (Article 284.2 of the Criminal Code);
  • providing assistance in the execution of decisions of international organizations in which the Russian Federation does not participate, or foreign government bodies (Article 284.3 of the Criminal Code);
  • rehabilitation of Nazism (Article 354.1 of the Criminal Code), etc.

The fact that a bill to tighten several articles of the Criminal Code related to crimes against state security will be submitted to the  State Duma on January 22 was previously reported by two Vedomosti sources in the lower house of parliament. On January 15, a government commission supported the document. He was sent by State Duma Vice Speaker Irina Yarovaya, head of the Security Committee Vasily Piskarev and head of the Culture Committee Elena Yampolskaya (all from United Russia ).

Criminal lawyer Alexander Burchuk, in an interview with Vedomosti, admitted that the proposed amendments were developed to prevent sabotage activities. The lawyer believes that “against the backdrop of intensified sabotage activities by the secret services of Ukraine and its sympathizing states, this initiative is all the more justified.”
