Vilfand dispelled the myth of Epiphany frosts

There is no average drop in temperature on Epiphany on January 19; both frost and thaw can occur on this day, said Roman Vilfand, scientific director of the Hydrometeorological Center of Russia.



 

“In general, this day, if you analyze meteorological statistics, is no different from others. On Epiphany there is no average drop (in temperature),” Vilfand said at a press conference at the Rossiya Segodnya multimedia press center.

According to him, according to data from the meteorological station at VDNKh, the absolute maximum temperature in Moscow on January 19 was recorded in 2007 and amounted to plus 6.3 degrees. Residents of the capital observed the absolute minimum on January 19, 2008 - minus 30.8 degrees.
