The UN Security Council meeting on U.S. strikes in Yemen will begin at 23.00 Moscow time

An urgent meeting of the UN Security Council in connection with the strikes of the United States and its allies on targets in Yemen will be held on Friday after the meeting on the Middle East settlement scheduled for 23.00 Moscow time, the Russian Permanent Mission reports.

As noted in the Telegram channel of the Permanent Mission, the meeting will be held in an open format.

Earlier, the Permanent Mission reported that Russia had requested an urgent meeting of the UN Security Council on January 12 in connection with the strikes by the United States and Great Britain against Yemen.

On Friday night, the United States and the United Kingdom carried out 23 airstrikes on targets in four provinces in different parts of Yemen, including the capital Sana'a, Hodeida, Taiz and Saad, local authorities told RIA Novosti. The Pentagon confirmed to RIA Novosti that the United States, in coordination with partners, attacked the targets of the Houthis in Yemen, the details will be made public later. The Houthis said they were retaliating against American and British military bases and facilities.

U.S. President Joe Biden called the strikes a response to the threat to freedom of navigation, promising to continue without hesitation. He claimed that 27 Houthis attacks damaged commercial ships from more than 50 countries, and on January 9, the movement launched the largest attack against American warships.
