The Russian Foreign Ministry responded to the threat of US nuclear weapons in Britain

The Russian Foreign Ministry considered the scenario of US nuclear weapons returning to Britain likely and destabilizing. The Telegraph newspaper previously wrote about these plans with reference to Pentagon government procurement.

Deputy Foreign Minister of Russia Sergei Ryabkov called the US decision to return nuclear weapons to the UK a destabilizing step. He also said that Moscow “strongly warns” Washington against this.

Regarding the topic of the hypothetical return of American tactical nuclear weapons to British territory, I would like to warn in the strongest possible terms against this destabilizing step.

The Telegraph newspaper, with reference to Pentagon government procurement, wrote on January 27 about US plans to deploy nuclear weapons in the UK for the first time in 15 years amid the “growing Russian threat.”

We are talking about B61-12 warheads with a yield of up to 50 kilotons, which is three times more than the bomb dropped on Hiroshima.

In June 2022, the BBC also reported plans to station 54 F-35 fighter jets (the F-35A version is capable of carrying nuclear weapons) at an American base in the United Kingdom in the next few years.
