The Russian Embassy called the confiscation of the "House of Moscow" in Riga a robbery

 The adoption by the Parliament of Latvia of a law providing for the confiscation of the cultural and business center (CDC) "Moscow House" in Riga is a legal arbitrariness and state robbery. This was stated by the Russian Embassy in Latvia.

"We regard this decision of the Latvian National Parliament as legal arbitrariness and, in fact, an act of state robbery, grossly trampling on the fundamental principles of international law that guarantee the inviolability of the property of other countries," the embassy commented on the adoption by the Latvian Sejm of a law providing for the confiscation of the Russian-owned building of the Moscow House in the center of Riga.

The Embassy notified the Latvian side of the inevitable retaliatory measures, including the submission of a claim to compensate for material damage and losses incurred after the shutdown of the Moscow House.

The embassy stressed that the confiscation of the "House of Moscow" is a confirmation of the unwillingness of the Latvian authorities to fulfill their international obligations in good faith. Such actions send a signal to all foreign owners that their assets in Latvia are not protected and can be confiscated at any time.

On December 21, representatives of the special services broke into the KDC building in Riga. The employees of "House" were deprived of the means of communication and interrogated. At the entrance to the building, a "security post" was installed, property and equipment were described in the premises. The official representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation Maria Zakharova said that the Russian side would respond to the raider seizure of the "House of Moscow" by the Latvian special services.

On January 11, the Latvian Sejm approved a bill providing for the transfer of the "House of Moscow" in Riga to the state. Funds from the sale of confiscated property are planned to be sent to Ukraine.
