The Kremlin recalled Kyiv’s ban on negotiations with Moscow

The Ukrainian authorities themselves prohibited negotiations with Russia, noted the press secretary of the Russian President Dmitry Peskov.

On January 14, Swiss Foreign Minister Ignazio Cassis said that Russia must be included in the peace process in Ukraine, since without dialogue it is impossible to achieve a successful result.

“First of all, we should not forget that Kyiv itself formalized a ban on any negotiations with Moscow. The absurd situation is probably, of course, best understood by remembering this ban,” Peskov said, commenting on the Swiss minister’s proposal.

Peskov recalled that Moscow’s position was confirmed by Russian President Vladimir Putin: “For us, of course, it is preferable to achieve our goals and solve our security problems through peaceful and diplomatic means.”

In the conditions of “the absolute impossibility of this, the reluctance of the countries of the collective West, the reluctance of Ukraine to take into account our security considerations,” Russia continues to carry out the special operation, the Kremlin representative concluded.

The  Russian Foreign Ministry , in response to Cassis’ statement, said that if the proposal to include Moscow in negotiations on Ukraine is aimed at forcing the Russian authorities to abandon its approaches to resolving the conflict, then such a trap will not work.

The fourth meeting of national security advisers, dedicated to the Ukrainian “peace formula,” was held on January 14 in Davos at the initiative of Switzerland and Ukraine. It could be the last at this level, the Swiss Foreign Ministry said. The Keystone-SDA agency, citing a source in the Swiss government, wrote that Switzerland does not see the point of talking for years about the “peace formula” of Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky.
