The Iraqi Foreign Ministry called the UAV strike on the militia headquarters in Baghdad a “dangerous escalation”
A drone strike on the headquarters of the Iraqi Shiite militia al-Hashd al-Shaabi in Baghdad is a "dangerous escalation." This is stated in a statement by the Iraqi Foreign Ministry, the contents of which are quoted by the INA agency. Responsibility for the drone strike lies with the US-led coalition forces. This statement was made by the official representative of the Commander-in-Chief of the Iraqi Armed Forces, General Yahya Rasul.
“ The Foreign Ministry expresses its strong condemnation of the attack on one of the headquarters of the Iraqi security forces in Baghdad. An attack on a unit associated with the Commander-in-Chief of the [Iraqi] Armed Forces and subordinate to the state is a dangerous escalation,” the text notes.
“Iraq reserves the right to take a firm position and take all measures to deter those who would attempt to encroach on its territory and its security forces,” the statement stressed.
Earlier, the information portal Shafaq News, citing a source in the security forces, reported that one of the commanders of the pro-Iranian Shiite movement Hezbollah al-Nujabaa and his supporter were killed in a drone strike in the Iraqi capital, and at least six more people were injured. The victim was known as Abu Taqwa, who led the movement's 12th Brigade and was also a supporter of the Iraqi Shiite militia Al-Hashd al-Shaabi.
Hezbollah al-Nujabaa confirmed the death of its commander and blamed the United States for what happened. The target of the UAV attack, according to the portal's sources, was the headquarters of the logistics forces in Baghdad. In turn, the official representative of the Commander-in-Chief of the Iraqi Armed Forces, General Yahya Rasul, also blamed the attack on the US-led coalition forces.
On December 26, the US Central Command announced attacks on targets of the Shiite group Kataib Hezbollah on Iraqi territory in response to attacks on coalition forces in Iraq and Syria. The Iraqi government then regarded US strikes against targets in the republic as a hostile act that violated the country's sovereignty.
