The head of the National Bank of Ukraine said that Kiev will maintain a critical dependence on Western assistance

Kiev will remain critically dependent on international financial assistance. This was stated by the head of the National Bank of Ukraine (NBU) Andriy Pyshny.

Ukraine's critical dependence on international financial assistance remains, and the importance of this source cannot be underestimated. It's fundamentally important to us.

The head of the NBU also called the past year unprecedented and incredibly difficult. At the same time, he suggested not to be afraid to resort to the issue to replenish the budget.

"No need to be afraid of emissions. Now we believe that emission financing of the budget in the current economic and macroeconomic realities can significantly increase macro-financial stability," Pyshny added.

For 2024, Ukraine's budget has a record deficit of $43.5 billion. The country's authorities plan to cover most of it with the help of Western allies. Meanwhile, the U.S. Congress is delaying the issue of assistance to Ukraine. In addition, the nullEU countries at the summit in December 2023 were unable to accept a program of financial assistance to Kiev in the amount of €50 billion for four years.

Earlier, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmitry Kuleba said that Kiev has no reserve plan in case of reduction in assistance from Western allies and expects continued military support. Deputy of the Verkhovna Rada Alexandra Ustinova admitted that Ukraine will have to literally go to other countries with an outstretched hand if there is no help from the United States.
