The former head of the Yekaterinburg police, convicted of bribery, died in the SVO zone
At the end of 2023, the former head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Yekaterinburg Igor Trifonov died in the special military operation zone (SVO), his lawyer Olga Kezik told Kommersant-Ural. His wife found out about the death of Igor Trifonov yesterday, January 2.
"Based on all the evidence that was collected in the case, the defense believes that it has not been proven to be involved in the commission of any crime. Igor Trifonov's family intends to prove his inallicipation in the crime for which he was convicted," said Olga Kezik.
In 2022, the court found Igor Trifonov guilty of receiving a bribe and illegal possession of weapons. Then he was sentenced to nine and a half years in a maximum security colony. In March 2023, the judicial board ruled out the conviction of Igor Trifonov for illegal acquisition of ammunition, and also mitigated the punishment under Part 1 of Art. 222 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation up to ten months of imprisonment.
Then the former chief of the Yekaterinburg police was appointed nine years and four months in a maximum security colony (the period was reduced by two months). The court also decided to confiscate the funds that were in the accounts of the former policeman into the state's income.
Igor Trifonov was found guilty of taking a bribe for his instruction to initiate a criminal case on fraud with the funds of the Ring of the Urals Bank. The case was allegedly initiated against the management of Fores-Chemistry LLC. He, as the court established, received the bibe through a chain of intermediaries.
