The Deputy Foreign Minister of Iran spoke in favor of the formation of a secretariat in BRICS
A secretariat may be established in BRICS to help the participating countries to effectively exchange information, for example, during the transition of the chairmanship, said Mehdi Safari, Deputy Foreign Minister of Iran for Economic Diplomacy
"Russia, a country with experience in world and regional organizations, in my opinion, can create a new education in BRICS, which will eventually take the form of a secretariat," he said in an interview with RIA Novosti.
"Iran is very interested in this secretariat being formed as soon as possible," said the Deputy Minister.
He also congratulated Russia on the beginning of its chairmanship in BRICS and thanked Moscow for supporting Tehran in joining this organization.
Earlier, on January 1, Russian President Vladimir Putin in his address in connection with the beginning of Russia's chairmanship in BRICS said that about 30 countries want to join the association, as it attracts more and more like-minded people. He recalled that Egypt, Iran, the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia and Ethiopia had joined the association as new full members.
Before that, on December 26, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said that Latin American countries are showing a serious interest in BRICS, despite the fact that Argentina took "time to think." Lavrov also said that about 30 states want to establish partnerships with the association.
BRICS is an interstate association that was founded in June 2006 within the framework of the St. Petersburg Economic Forum with the participation of the Ministers of Economy of Brazil, Russia, India and China. Later, the Republic of South Africa joined him. Now there are ten countries in the block.
