The defendant in the case of theft on "Vostochny" died after a fight with a cellmate

 The former head of the company "Tsvetlit" Sergei Volkodav, who was among the main defendants in the case of theft during the construction of the Vostochny cosmodrome, died, this was reported by the telegram channel "112". A source close to the Federal Penitentiary Service confirmed to RBC that Volkodav died in a pre-trial detention center hospital. The source reported that he suffered a head injury in a fight and died in a pre-trial detention center hospital.

"He was provoked by a cellmate in the conflict, as a result of the fight he suffered a head injury and was first put in the medical unit of the pre-trial detention center № 4, and then transferred to the hospital of Matrosskaya Tilita," the source said.

According to him, he had a trepination of his skull there, and he fell into a coma and then died.

RBC sent a request to SIZO-1 and SIZO-2 in Moscow, and also asked the press service of the Federal Penitentiary Service for comment.

Sergei Volkodav together with his brother Yuri, who was the former head of the Main Military Construction Department (GVSU) № 6 (former "Dalspetsstroy"), are the defendants in the case of theft during the construction of the Vostochny cosmodrome.

In January 2022, the Khabarovsk court sentenced Sergei and Yuri to 4.9 years and 6.5 years in prison, respectively. They were also recovered 79.46 million as damage.

According to the investigation, Yuri Volkodav, who led the construction of facilities at the cosmodrome, concluded contracts with the company of his brother "Tsvetlit" for the purchase of products for "Vostochny" and several Far Eastern facilities of the Ministry of Defense. The prosecution noted that the products "were not actually used or not included in the subject of the contract originally concluded between the State SSU № 6 and the company."

When sentencing the brothers, the court decided to recalculate the terms of imprisonment taking into account the time of detention in the pre-trial detention center, which allowed them to count on pale. Later, Sergei Volkodav was convicted in another case - fraud in the amount of about 50 million rubles. After another recalculation of the terms, the court decided that he should serve his sentence for 4.9 years.

Sergei Volkodav appealed the decision, the appellate court found violations and returned the case to the prosecutor's office. The businessman was released and he went to Moscow. At the same time, the prosecutor's office appealed the court's decision, after which Sergei Volkodav was put on the wanted list.

In August, the entrepreneur was detained and arrested in Moscow. The new fraud case, as Kommersant wrote, was related, among other things, to the theft of funds in the performance of contracts with the Ministry of Industry and Trade for 786 million rubles.
