Stone River in New Zealand: an incredible natural phenomenon

 Cyclone Gita raged almost all of February in the South Pacific. Hurricanes and showers hit New Zealand, causing a lot of destruction. In addition, the same cyclone was the indirect cause of a unique natural phenomenon, a real stone river.

A stone avalanche came down from the mountains to the Canterbury Plain, forming a powerful stream of rubble and pebbles. The speed of the stones was so high that it really looked like a stormy river.

The avalanche cut off several large farms from civilization, the owners of which are now literally under siege - the municipal authorities give them food and water by helicopters.

Most likely, the flow in the bulk is formed from grauvakka, clay sandstone. The stormy wind has led to the fact that the grauvacca behaves like a real liquid, despite the incomparably high density.
