Security forces came to the Wildberries office because of a fire in Shushary

Wildberries claim that the investigative actions will not affect the company’s work. An RBC source familiar with the inspection said that security forces are interested in fire safety systems.

Law enforcement agencies came to the Moscow office of Wildberries in connection with a fire at a warehouse in Shushary near St. Petersburg, the company reports.

“We are interested in ensuring that the causes of the fire are established as soon as possible. Wildberries is cooperating with the investigation and providing the competent authorities with all the necessary information,” the company said. The press service emphasized that investigative actions do not affect its work, it works as usual.

“All Wildberries facilities undergo fire safety checks, including offices. Security systems and documentation for all facilities are being checked,” said an RBC source familiar with the progress of the inspection.

The fire in the warehouse started on the morning of January 13. The fire was assigned the fifth, highest level of complexity. The area of the burned warehouse is 112 thousand square meters. m. It was possible to eliminate the open burning only the next day. There were no deaths in the fire; 78.ru and Fontanka, citing sources, reported one casualty.

The St. Petersburg State Construction Supervision Authority reported that the warehouse was operating without permission to put it into operation. “There was no application for commissioning. They issued a certificate of compliance in 2022, and then the developer himself [submits an application]. In general, they should not have worked with such papers without permission,” said Vyacheslav Zakharov, acting head of the regional State Construction Supervision Service.

Wildberries claimed that Gosstroynadzor issued a conclusion on the warehouse’s compliance with all requirements, including urban planning, sanitary and fire safety requirements.

The Investigative Committee opened a criminal case for abuse of power due to the fire (Part 1 of Article 201 of the Criminal Code). It provides for imprisonment for up to four years.

Among the possible versions of the fire, an RBC source close to  the Ministry of Emergency Situations named the following: the introduction of the fire source from outside by unidentified persons; emergency operation of the electrical network; careless handling of fire.
