Scientists have shown how many years the traces of civilization will disappear if humanity disappears
Environmentalists are worried about how humanity affects the entire planet, but other scientists rate our contribution to changing the world not so highly. A group of researchers modeled the situation of the complete disappearance of mankind from the face of the Earth and showed that nature will take several thousand years to remove most human traces.
One of the authors of the work was Harvard biologist Edward Wilson. He believes that the species we have bred will be the first to suffer from the disappearance of civilization - in 200 years there will be only the strongest representatives, no ornamental animals and plants.
The satellites will last in orbit for a little more than a year. They will gradually fall from orbit to the Earth changing under the pressure of nature. Cities built in dryland, even the largest, will be sanded in 25 years. After another 300 years, corrosion will finally corrode all the metal parts of the buildings.
500 years after the disappearance of civilization, there will be almost no traces of cities, except for stones scattered in the jungles and deserts. 10 thousand years and from the civilization known to us, only the remains of majestic stone monuments, parts of the Great Wall of China, stones of Egyptian pyramids will be visible.
Most of all, it will take nature to process plastic and glass. These materials will finally disintegrate only for 15 million years.
Scientists believe that if a new civilization is born on our planet in 300 million years, its representatives will not even notice the humanity that once existed.
