On the verge of collapse: what is happening in Yemen after US strikes

Tens of thousands of protesters took to the main squares of Yemen's cities. This footage shows demonstrators condemning aggression from the West.

The US and UK have launched a military operation in Yemen. Backed by Bahrain, Australia, the Netherlands and Canada, they carried out more than 70 strikes against Houthi rebel targets who control the Arab state.

Among them are the Kahlan military base in the province of Saada, an air base north of the Yemeni capital, the area of the airport in the city of Hudaydah on the Red Sea, the airport in Taiz and other facilities in this province in the southwest of Yemen, as well as Abbs airfield.

The targets were communication centers, weapons warehouses, launch systems, production facilities and air defense systems of the Houthis. At least five dead and six wounded are known.

The situation has also begun to shake the oil markets - fuel prices are rising. The price of Brent jumped 2.5% and now stands at almost $80 per barrel.

Experts believe that the main risk could be Iran's direct involvement in the conflict. In this case, production in the region, which accounts for a third of the world's fuel, will be jeopardized - Izvestia correspondent Georgy Grivenny is following developments.

Earlier, 5-tv.ru wrote whether the Third World War will cover the world after US strikes on Yemen.
