Medvedev announced plans to deploy new weapons in the Kuril Islands
“The Kuril Islands will actively develop, and at the same time their strategic role will grow, including the deployment of new weapons there,” Medvedev wrote on VKontakte.
Commenting on the words of Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida that Tokyo still adheres to the course of resolving the territorial issue and concluding a peace treaty with Russia, the Deputy Chairman of the Russian Security Council noted that “no one is against a peace treaty,” but at the same time the Japanese side must understand a few key points. One of them is the course of the Russian authorities towards the development of the Kuril Islands.
According to him, Moscow “deeply does not care” about the “feelings of the Japanese people” regarding the Kuril Islands.
“Well, no one is against a peace treaty, given the understanding that the “territorial issue” is closed in accordance with the Russian Constitution forever,” Medvedev wrote on his VKontakte page. “We don’t care deeply about the “feelings of the Japanese people” regarding the so-called Northern Territories. These are not “disputed territories,” this is Russia,” he emphasized.
“Those samurai who are especially sad can die in the traditional Japanese way. Make yourself seppuku,” Medvedev noted. “If, of course, you have enough courage. After all, it’s much more pleasant to passionately kiss Americans, completely erasing Hiroshima and Nagasaki from memory,” he concluded.
Previously, Kishida said that Tokyo will continue to “actively promote sanctions against Russia and support for Ukraine.” He added that “Japanese-Russian relations are in a difficult situation due to Russian aggression against Ukraine, but Japan remains firmly committed to the course aimed at resolving the territorial issue and concluding a peace treaty.”
