Lukashenko invited Putin to go to Antarctica

Belarusian leader Alexander Lukashenko invited Russian President Vladimir Putin to visit Antarctica.

He voiced the corresponding proposal on January 28 during the ceremony of putting into trial operation the new wintering complex of the Antarctic Vostok station.

“Maybe someday we’ll wave? Interesting,” Lukashenko addressed the Russian President.

Putin responded to the proposal with a smile.

“Yes, good,” the Russian leader replied.

Lukashenko arrived in Russia on a working visit on January 27. He noted that he intended to hold one-on-one negotiations with his Russian colleague before a meeting of the Supreme State Council of the Union State.

On January 28, Putin and Lukashenko took part in the commissioning ceremony of the wintering complex of the Vostok station via video link. During the event, the President of Russia noted that the opening of this segment of the station is a big and significant event for Russian polar scientists.

Also during the event, the President of the Russian Federation assured that the government of the country will make a decision on billions of dollars in investments in the work of Antarctic researchers in 2025-2027. “Vostok” will become an open platform for the work of researchers from many countries of the world, Putin emphasized.
