In China, a former top manager of an oil and gas corporation was arrested for bribery

The State Supervisory Committee of the People's Republic of China investigated the case of Xu Wenrong before transferring it to the prosecutor's office.

Former deputy general director of China National Petroleum Corporation (CNPC) Xu Wenrong has been arrested on suspicion of bribery. This was reported by the Liaoning Provincial Prosecutor's Office.

“On instructions from the Supreme People's Procuratorate of the People's Republic of China, the People's Procuratorate of Liaoning Province ordered the arrest of former Deputy General Director of China National Petroleum Corporation Xu Wenrong on suspicion of taking a bribe,” the statement said.

Xu Wenrong's case was investigated by the State Supervisory Committee of the People's Republic of China before being transferred to the prosecutor's office.

China has stated a “zero tolerance” policy towards corruption. In recent months, several major officials from state-owned companies and financial institutions have been arrested or come under investigation. All of them are accused of accepting bribes and other violations of the law.
