Biden named the main issue of the upcoming US elections

US President Joe Biden gave a campaign speech on January 5 in Valley Forge, Pennsylvania. He said American democracy was at stake in the upcoming elections and vowed to spend the rest of his administration defending it.

“I take a sacred oath: to protect, to preserve, to preserve American democracy will remain the primary focus of my presidency, as it always has been. Entering the election year, we must be aware that there is democracy and freedom on our ballots,” he added.

In his speech, Biden accused former President Donald Trump of backsliding on democracy, repeatedly calling his supporters rioters and himself the supreme election denier.

Earlier, on December 31, The Financial Times wrote that only 39% of Americans approve of Biden. It is noted that, despite his successes in the economy, he will have a hard time in the elections with low ratings.

On December 29, former chief lyricist for former US President George W. Bush, Marc Thiessen, in his ranking of Biden's worst actions of the year for The Washington Post, noted that the American leader's intention to run for a second term as head of state is his worst decision in 2023. According to him, Biden is the most unpopular president since the end of World War II.

At the same time, former foreign policy adviser to the leadership of the Republican Party in the Senate Jim Jatras, in a conversation with Izvestia on December 26, said that in a potential confrontation between Trump and Biden in the US presidential election in November 2024, the current head of state would win. According to him, it does not matter that in December the Republican's rating exceeded the Democrat's for the first time (47% versus 43%).

On December 9, journalists from The Wall Street Journal reported that former US President Trump overtook Biden in the election ratings for the first time. According to the data provided, if there was a choice between the two of them, 47% of American citizens would vote for Trump. At the same time, 43% of voters would prefer to see Biden in a second term.

Biden said on December 6 that in the country’s upcoming presidential elections in 2024, approximately 50 of his fellow Democrats could defeat Trump. He also promised that he would win this election against Trump. At the same time, Fox Business columnist Larry Kudlow expressed the opinion that Biden is demonstrating despair over Trump's plans to revise the country's current policies if he wins.

The day before, Biden said that it was unlikely that he would have decided to become head of state again if his predecessor Trump had not announced his intention to run for head of state in 2024.

NBC News, citing a poll it conducted on November 19, reported that Biden's approval rating had fallen to a record low during his entire tenure as the country's leader. As the TV channel indicated, it decreased by 40% due to the fact that the majority of the country's population does not support the approach of the current leader of the country to foreign policy and his position on the conflict in the Middle East.

On November 16, The Economist magazine wrote that the possibility of Trump winning the US presidential election is becoming more and more realistic. Several polls show him leading Biden in swing states. In one poll published by The New York Times, 59% of voters trusted him on the economy, compared with just 37% for the current president.

The next – 60th – presidential elections are scheduled for November 2024.
