Ambassadors of Germany, Great Britain and Deputy Head of the U.S. Embassy in Russia Stephanie Holmes laid flowers at the St. Petersburg Piskarev Memorial Cemetery in honor of the 80th anniversary of the lifting of the blockade of Leningrad. This is reported by the press service of the American diplomatic mission in Moscow in the Telegram channel.

"On the 80th anniversary of the lifting of the blockade of Leningrad, we honor the memory of the brave residents and defenders of Leningrad," the publication says.

According to the press service, in this way the diplomats honored the courage and humanity of the Leningrad blockaders and expressed deep respect for the severe suffering they suffered.

As noted in the embassy, the courage of the residents of the besieged city serves as a reminder of the sanctity of human life and freedom.

Before that, Presidents of Russia and Belarus Vladimir Putin and Alexander Lukashenko took part in the opening ceremony of the memorial in memory of the victims of Nazism during the Great Patriotic War. The monument is located in the village of Zaytsevo, Gatchina district, Leningrad region.
