The mother of the wanted skewer explained his departure to the United States
The mother of the wanted Russian fencer Sergei Bida, Elena Grishina, explained her son's departure to the United States by the need to have an operation. This is reported by RT.
Earlier it was reported that Sergei Bida and his wife Violetta, who are military personnel, were put on the wanted list under Art. 377 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (unauthorized abandonment of a part or place of service), which provides for punishment in the form of imprisonment for up to ten years.
"My son hasn't done the operation yet. But he had an idea to continue his career if it was successful. However, he was offered a job there, and he works as a coach. And the whole cheese-bor due to the fact that in parallel he sometimes performs at the U.S. championships. But he competes exclusively for the club, not for the country. He is asked, and he goes out on the platform. In Russia, everything is too twisted," said Grishina.
The athlete's mother reported that before the trip, her son tried to quit Rosgvardia several times and he had the necessary permission to leave the country, received from the Ministry of Sports.
"He came to Rosgvardia several times to quit. My son was denied it. But he had permission to leave the country from the Ministry of Sports. The corresponding lists were compiled by the head coach of the Russian national team Ilgar Mammadov. He also sent them to Rosgvardia, as there were other fencers in it.
A similar list was in the Ministry of Defense. They signed them there. So Sergei had official permission to leave until the end of this year. That's why he wasn't stopped at the border. That's why Sergei wasn't worried at all. He planned to leave, have an operation and possibly come back," Grishina said.
Sergey Bida is a three-time European champion and silver medalist of the Tokyo Olympics in a team tournament. His wife Violetta is also a professional fencer. She won silver at the 2019 World Cup.
Sergey's mother Elena Grishina is a two-time silver medalist at the World Fencing Championships. She performed at the 1988 Olympics in Seoul and at the 1992 Olympics in Barcelona. Grishina specialized in fencing on rapiers.
