The forgotten 2020 Mercedes-Benz concept car was found in a landfill
An unusual discovery three years ago foreshadowed the debut of the current generation S-class
Few people know about what happens to concept cars after their star hour: the company leaves especially valuable copies in their museums, and where do all the others go? The answer to this question is before you.
A Reddit user has published photos of an unusual capsule that he found on the outskirts of a waste recycling plant. In appearance, it resembles the frame of the interior of a four-door car with characteristic glazing, but without wheels. It turned out that this is a concept car that Mercedes-Benz built a few years ago for the debut of the future S-class - and its fate, alas, is unenviable.
The My MBUX concept car was a platform for demonstrating the capabilities of the second-generation MBUX media system, which subsequently appeared on the serial S-class sedan. It was used during the filming of promotional videos for a long teaser campaign, so the salon almost completely repeated the interior of the future serial car.
However, after the long-awaited exit of the "eski" from the concept car, it was decided to get rid of: the steering wheel, decor, dashboard screens and media systems were pulled out of the interior in advance, and a portable remote control with a separate display disappeared from the central armrest in the back row. There are no logos of the German brand anywhere either. But the seats, the screens on the backrests for the rear passengers and the electric seat adjustment units remained in their places - they went to the landfill with the "car".
The further fate of the concept car remains unknown: apparently, no one is in a hurry to destroy it yet, but hardly representatives of the Mercedes-Benz brand care about its future. By the way, they found a capsule in the suburbs of Atlanta - this is where the main North American office of the German company is located.
