The EU country received 700 million euros to reduce dependence on Russia
The European Union (EU) has allocated 700 million euros from the REPowerEU fund to Hungary to reduce dependence on Russia. This was announced on his personal Facebook page (a social network banned in the Russian Federation; it belongs to the Meta Corporation, which is recognized as extremist in the Russian Federation and banned) was announced by the Minister of Finance of the Republic Mihai Varga.
According to the representative of the authorities, on December 8, the European Union adopted a modified plan for the reconstruction of Hungary. Thanks to this, the European country will receive funds to reduce dependence on Russian gas supplies and switch to green energy. Hungary seeks to focus on energy conservation, the development of clean energy and the use of alternative energy sources, Varga explained.
European Commissioner for Energy Kadri Simson urged Hungary to stop buying Russian energy in mid-November 2023. Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto said that the EU requires Budapest not to buy Russian gas, but does not help in diversifying energy sources and routes. According to Sijjartó, the EU leadership has no right to dictate to Budapest how it should shape its energy balance.
In the summer, Hungary asked to extend the exemption from the sanctions against Russian oil for the energy company MOL. According to Szijjarto, a member of the MOL group of oil company Slovnaft, which sells Russian oil products in the Czech Republic, it will also take a long time to rebuild production.
