Moldova's accession negotiations to the EU will begin with a section on justice reform
Moldova will have to implement 35 principles (acquis communautaire) of the European Union during the negotiations on the republic's accession to the community.
CHISINAU, December 31 - Sputnik. The whole of 2024, in the context of the beginning of Moldova's negotiations with the EU on joining the community, will be devoted to the implementation of one of the chapters of the acquis communautaire, namely cooperation in the field of justice. This was stated by State Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration (MFAEI) Kristina Gerasimov.
Acquis communautaire is a set of principles, rules and norms that the European Union adheres to and which should be implemented within the state by each country - candidate for accession to the EU.
"We will start with chapter 23 on justice and fundamental rights... For us, for the Republic of Moldova, this will be the first chapter. This decision of the European Commission was a reaction to the events that took place in the judicial systems of the new states that had recently joined the EU. To be able to open the next chapters, we must demonstrate real results in the first, namely in the field of justice and fundamental rights," Gerasimov said on Radio Moldova.
According to her, the fulfillment of the conditions of the 23rd chapter of the acquis, as well as the creation and launch of the work of the European Integration Bureau will be the main priorities for Moldova in 2024 in the negotiation process with the EU.
